Planning a brand photoshoot is more than just picking out a few outfits and striking a pose. It's about strategically and intentionally showcasing your brand in a way that resonates with your audience and reflects your identity. With over five years of experience planning and executing brand and product photoshoots, we’ve learned a lot along the way. Here's how you can approach your next shoot with confidence.
Take Yourself (& Your Brand) Seriously
Getting in front of the camera can be nerve-wracking, but remember, this is your moment to shine. The way you carry yourself translates directly into the images that will represent your brand. Before the shoot, take a moment to remind yourself of your accomplishments and what your brand stands for. Confidence is key, and when you believe in your yourself (and your brand) it will show in every shot. (Pro Tip: If you find yourself struggling with confidence, visualize the outcome of your photos — how they will elevate your brand and connect with your audience.)
Strategic Preparation is Everything
Your photoshoot should be a well-oiled machine. Start by planning your outfits in advance — yes, down to the last accessory. Think about the message each look conveys and how it aligns with your brand’s identity. Don't forget about props (think plants, work supplies) that can add depth and context to your photos. Beyond outfits, create a detailed shot list.
Whether it’s through a Pinterest board, Google Doc, or spreadsheet, knowing exactly what shots you need will save time and ensure you don’t miss anything crucial. This level of preparation not only makes the shoot smoother but also maximizes your time and investment.

Stay Flexible & Embrace The Unexpected
No matter how well you plan, always be flexible. During one of my shoots, I spilled red wine on my jeans and blazer — an unexpected turn of events. Instead of letting it derail the session, we pivoted and found creative ways to work around it.
Pro Tip: Always have a backup plan for outfits or locations, and trust your photographer's expertise in finding solutions on the fly. They’re the experts.
Remember, Perfection Comes with Practice
Your first brand photoshoot might not go flawlessly, and that's okay. Learning the nuances of lighting, posing, and styling takes time. Each shoot will teach you something new, and with every session, you'll get closer to capturing the essence of your brand as well as documenting the evolution of your business journey.
